Mimi Love is a principal at Utile Inc., a Boston design firm that specializes in urban design, architecture, and interior design. Her expertise ranges from complicated renovation projects to new construction with challenging programmatic requirements. Mimi is currently managing the design of the Harbor Park Pavilion, located on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, for the National Park Service and Boston Harbor Island Alliance. She is also working on the conversion of a fire station into a community-based performance center for Zumix, a non-profit organization based in East Boston. In addition to a preformance area, the project also includes a recording studio, radio station, meeting rooms, and offices. Mimi and team are seeking LEED accreditation for the project.
Mimi previously did a comprehensive master plan for Emerson Hall at Harvard University and a master plan and three summers of renovation projects for the Advent School in Beacon Hill. She also managed the design of a new classroom building for grades K-through-4 for the Carroll School in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
Prior to joining Utile Inc. in 2006, Mimi was an Associate at Machado & Silvetti Associates in Boston where she was the lead designer for the renovation projects at the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, California. The scope of renovations included a radical transformation of the existing Roman-styled museum, the conversion of J. Paul Getty’s original house into offices and a scholars’ library, and new conservation laboratories located in buildings that were part of the original campus. Between 1989 and 1994, Mimi worked in New York City for Perkins & Will and Kohn Pedersen Fox.
Mimi recently co-authored Color Space Style, a reference book on interior design for Rockport Publications. The book covers everything that both a designer and layperson need to know about interior design, with chapters ranging from project management to the installation of decorative accessories.
