Al Soor Open Spaces

Description

Utile was RMJM’s urban design and retail consultant for the first-phase implementation for an ambitious Dubai development project. As part of their role, Utile programmed and designed all of the typical open spaces defined by the master plan, including streets, pedestrian ways, plazas, and courtyards. The nine pedestrian space types that were identified and documented are conditioned by the differences in function, engagement with the ground-level program in abutting buildings, level of public access, and character. The overarching goal was to create a variety of spaces, from minimally designed plazas and pedestrian streets to lush gardens with elements and plantings that appeal to all five senses. The contrast between spatial types is intended to enhance the quality of the pedestrian experience as a carefully choreographed itinerary.
