Front Street Building Two with the Portland Housing Authority has achieved PHIUS+ CORE pre-certification through the Passive House Institute US!

The 13-unit building is part of a larger, 113-unit affordable housing development near the Back Cove neighborhood of Portland, ME. By pursuing Passive House Certification, Front Street Building Two is setting the design standard for the first phase of the development. The pre-certification milestone acknowledges that the building is designed and modeled to the highest standard of envelope performance, operational efficiency, and indoor air quality. The design features an airtight building envelope with continuous exterior insulation, minimal thermal bridging, triple-glazed windows, efficient in-unit heat recovery ventilation, and a solar-ready roof. As the project moves into the construction phase, the team will engage in an onsite verification process, advancing the project toward our goal of full certification.
