About Alexander:

Alexander Porter brings diverse interests in computation, environmental analysis, fabrication, and cultural theory to his work as an architect at Utile.  His diverse experience includes innovative workspace interiors, inspiring educational spaces, international cultural competitions, and strategic thinking for corporations and institutions.  At Utile, Alexander has worked at multiple scales on projects including the Belmont Hill Makerspace, Fessenden Dining Commons, and several projects at the Kendall Square Workspace. Before joining Utile in 2020, Alexander worked in offices in Boston and New York City including Eisenman Architects, Toshiko Mori Architect, and Höweler + Yoon Architecture.

Alexander completed his Bachelor of Arts in both Classical Music and Architecture at Columbia University, and his Master of Architecture with distinction from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, graduating top in his class and receiving the AIA Medal of Honor and the Digital Design Prize for his thesis.  He has continued to explore academic topics in architecture, serving as Utile’s Director of Architecture and as design faculty at institutions including Rhode Island School of Design and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Alexander lives in Boston, where he enjoys all types of baking, most types of eating, keeping up with the piano, and running agility with his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Darcy.
