We are happy to celebrate International Women’s Month with an intersectional piece by artist Wanda Felsenhardt, emphasizing the collective strength and resilience of women from all generations and walks of life.

Statement by the Artist:

For Women’s History Month, I was inspired by the multitude of experiences that women across all identities and generations share. I take inspiration in our shared stories and challenges. For example, advocacy around equal employment rights for pregnant women, and the attack on womens’ right to bodily autonomy. Diversity is at the heart of this work, honoring women of different backgrounds, experiences, and ages, including trans women, whose presence is vital in our history and future.
In creating this, I wanted to reflect the rich and colorful tapestry of our collective presence.
From a visual perspective, I chose a color palette of earth tones to evoke a sense of warmth and community. To convey this sense of connection, I depicted most of the figures in profile, creating a feeling of continuity and collective movement. The side profile view guides the eye across the composition, reinforcing the idea of women looking both toward the past and the future. The overlapping, collaged shapes further symbolize the interwoven nature of our experiences, while the inclusion of women at various stages of life, including young girls, mothers, and older women, emphasizes the lifelong impact of women’s contributions. Through this piece, I hope to celebrate strength, resilience, and unity.
