

In early October, Utile traveled to Bozeman, MT to present two projects at ACD49: Enduring Optimism, the Association for Community Design’s annual conference, hosted by the Montana Community Design Center at Montana State University.
As part of the “Staying with Communities” session, Carlos Sainz Caccia presented on Chelsea ¡Pa’Lante, Onward!, the city’s first comprehensive plan in over 55 years. Developed through an extensive bilingual engagement process and grounded in four community-authored values, the plan charts a path for Chelsea, MA through 2040.
Jocelyn Chiou presented Roots to Rise: Seeding a New Model for Public Housing on the “Communities Reimagine Public Housing” panel, focusing on Utile’s master plan for Great Brook Valley, an 80-acre public housing community in Worcester, MA. The plan, developed with the Worcester Housing Authority, envisions a phased redevelopment that nearly triples existing density, adding retail, open space, and housing across all income levels.
