We are honored to be named a winner of Woodworks’ Wood in Architecture Awards!! The Guild at 154 Broadway in Somerville is a passive house certified residential building with a mass timber structure, one of the first two market-rate, multi-family, cross-laminated timber (CLT) buildings in the Greater Boston area. This project demonstrates the synergy between Passive House and mass timber design, making use of wood throughout the project in both a carbon-reducing and aesthetic way. CLT planks were used for the upper four floor slabs and doubled as both structure and finish for common areas and unit living spaces. Exposing the CLT eliminated the need for other ceiling finish materials and resulted not only in striking, warm interiors, but also living spaces with higher-than-typical floor-to-ceiling dimensions that make units feel more expansive.

Thank you to WoodWorks for celebrating excellence and innovation in mass timber, heavy timber, light-frame, and hybrid building design! WoodWorks – Wood Products Council is a non-profit organization providing education and free technical support related to the design, engineering, and construction of commercial and multi-family wood buildings in the U.S.
