Autodesk Boston Workspace Expansion
Description
Located in the historic Innovation and Design Building, a former Army warehouse reimagined as a hub for creative industries, Autodesk’s workspace expansion extends the company’s Boston presence with a flexible, light-filled environment for collaboration and focused work. The design builds on Utile’s earlier work for Autodesk’s adjacent Executive Briefing and Event Center, continuing a unified vision that connects the two spaces through shared materials, views, and circulation.

Within the deep floor plate, a ring of workstations surrounds a luminous core of meeting rooms wrapped in a 34-color gradient that helps organize teams and brings visual energy to the open plan. A series of permeable “islands” made up of collaboration zones, lounges, and custom furnishings creates a legible rhythm across the space while allowing daylight to reach the interior.
A continuous 275-foot circulation axis links the workspace to the Briefing Center and is highlighted by an arcade of illuminated arches. Materials and fabrication techniques such as polycarbonate panels, CNC-formed metal components, and acoustically tuned wood and felt screens reflect Autodesk’s commitment to advancing design and fabrication technologies. The result is a highly adaptable workplace that supports creativity and connection across Autodesk’s Boston teams.
