Summit Farms

Summit Farms is a 60-acre redevelopment outside Davidson, North Carolina that transforms fallow agricultural land into a mixed-use community centered on a working farm. Its productive core is 17 acres of farm and pasture that supports an on-site restaurant. Farm-to-table food is paired with beverage: Summit Coffee’s headquarters and roastery, a microbrewery, and winery enclose a garden court. Lodging above serves guests who may be celebrating at the nearby event pavilion. This venue anchors a street lined by shops and multi-family housing structures while offering views of the farm fields beyond.

A network of gravel roads and trails following the site’s topography connects quarter to half acre single-family plots. Like the farm and commercial structures, these homes are contemporary but informed by the rural vernacular in their simple forms, modest scale, and local materiality. A preserved, century-old stable of rough-hewn timbers sheltered by a lilting metal roof serves as talisman in this regard. Its central position between the community core and single-family sectors conveys Summit Farms’ unifying principles of practicality, longevity, and rustic beauty.
