Tim Love delivered a lecture to kick off “Growth by Design: The Interplay Between Urban Development & Urban Design,” a forum hosted by the Worcester Regional Research Bureau on Tuesday at Worcester’s DCU Center. The expert panel also included Michael DiPasquale, executive director of the UMass Design Center in Springfield; Carolyn Misch, senior land planner and permits manager for the City of Northampton; Claire V. Ricker, chief design planner for the City of Lowell; and Kairos Shen, former chief planner for the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

After Love’s talk, he led a discussion with the panelists focused on how urban design thinking can be folded into infrastructure projects and development review. The strategies include looking to cities like New Haven and Providence as comparable case studies, demanding new development that is both high-quality and unique, and embracing design that reflects Worcester’s richly-textured urban fabric.

You can read Telegram reporter Craig Semon’s coverage of the forum in “Urban renewal should embrace Worcester’s quirks, experts say”.
