Three Utile projects recognized in the 2021 AN Best of Design Awards

We’re thrilled to have three projects recognized by The Architect’s Newspaper in the 2021 AN Best of Design Awards

NAVY BLUE was selected as the Unbuilt – Masterplan category winner. This redevelopment proposal to transform Charlestown Navy Yard’s Pier 5 into a resilient community of live-aboard vessels organized around harbor inlets and floating public open space was led by the tri-venture of Charlestown Marina, Parent + Diamond, and Urban Spaces, along with the design team of Utile, Tise Design Associates, and landscape architecture firm Landworks Studio, Inc.. The proposal also includes an ambitious rethinking of the Harborwalk on the landward side of the pier.

The Roxbury Branch of the Boston Public Library Renovation received an Honorable Mention in the Public category. The 27,000 square foot renovation was completed with the City of Boston and The Boston Public Library to create a welcoming environment for visitors and enhance the library’s presence in the Nubian Square community.

Homegrown Courts: Los Angeles Low-Rise Housing received an honorable mention in the Unbuilt Residential category. In response to the Low-Rise: Housing Ideas for Los Angeles competition organized by the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office and Christopher Hawthorne, the Chief Design Officer for the City of Los Angeles, with support from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the James Irvine Foundation, and Citi, Homegrown Courts proposes a rethinking of the traditional 50’x100’ single family Los Angeles parcel to accommodate four to six units and meet the needs of today’s rapidly changing Los Angeles.

Thank you to The Architect’s Newspaper for this exciting recognition!
