Best From NYC Contemporary Art

My first visit to the New Museum on the Bowery was a real disappointment.  There seem to be some curatorial deficiencies of the highest order….On a brighter note, one of the best pieces of art I’ve seen in a while is a series of video installations by LA artist Jennifer Steinkamp at Lehmann Maupin Gallery on West 26^th street.  She creates incredibly complex, fake “natural” computer animations of mutating elements.  They are very well installed and breathtakingly complex.  They are best in person, but you can see a youtube fragment here and something from her website here.
