Defining a Precinct

10/19/2012 Uncategorized

We are testing strategies for defining an urban precinct that can be strongly defined by the differentiation of the ground plane – and other elements – but not necessarily wall-like enclosures. Our work to date has been focused on paving patterns – set off from the context by a reveal and a frame – and short vertical elements (double-functioning as bollards).

Our quick visit to a cemetery in Newton provided an excellent example of precinct-making using minimal means.
