Raymond Flynn Marine Park Master Plan Update
Utile was selected by the Boston Planning and Development Agency and the Economic Development and Industrial Corporation to produce an update to the master plan for the Raymond Flynn Marine Park (formerly the Boston Marine Industrial Park). Working with BPDA/EDIC, Utile looked at how the industrial park has changed since the last master plan update in 1999. The team conducted an economic analysis of the park’s port facilities and identified the port’s relative position in the regional maritime economy, as well as examined how future land uses will relate to the South Boston Waterfront. An updated RFMP master plan offers an opportunity to analyze the changes and challenges to this part of the Boston Harbor and to plot out a course for the next ten years, calling for a mixture of marine industrial and related manufacturing, research and development, and supporting commercial uses. Proposed building typologies and regulatory recommendations can have a significant impact on the economic feasibility of retaining industrial uses in the park and encouraging new uses.
