We are excited and honored to celebrate Black History Month this year with featured artist Ayana Mack (@ayanamack.co)! Her practice is a reminder that art can be a catalyst for healing, cultivating joy, and nurturing connections — especially important as we navigate the difficulties and uncertainties of our current climate.

She writes: “Portraits are beautiful interpretations of who we are and windows into our spirit and individuality.” Coming from a line of artists and creatives, including a grandmother who drew portraits of all her children, Ayana creates work that centers transformation and amplifies her belief that all people deserve to see themselves reflected in their communities.

The Poinciana flower flowing through “A Different Form” is the national flower of St. Kitts & Nevis — a nod to Ayana’s heritage and the Caribbean diaspora that gives life to Boston’s many neighborhoods. It serves as a symbol of vibrancy, beauty, and resilience.
