The City of Boston and Boston Public Library revealed the reopening of the Roxbury Branch of the Boston Public Library, after its comprehensive renovation designed by Utile!
In the City of Boston’s official press release, Mayor Martin Walsh says, “”Libraries are an essential resource for Bostonians across the city, and we are excited that this newly-renovated branch will bring improved access and vital services to Roxbury. I am grateful to everyone who helped bring this next chapter of the Roxbury Branch to life, which was designed with a focus on workforce development, community engagement, and Black heritage and culture.”
Utile is thrilled to finally share new photography by Anton Grassl of the 27,000 square foot renovation, which includes a revitalized community room with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, new lighting, and large windows overlooking a new entrance and plaza. New programs include a technology teaching lab and a nutrition lab featuring a full kitchen, and a dedicated African American collection is prominently located just inside the new entrance. Expanded computer stations and laptop availability provide visitors with access to technology throughout the library.
